Dr. Elizabeth Kenward

she/her

Dr. Kenward completed her under-graduate training in Cell Biology and Genetics at the University of British Columbia.  Research in immune system modulation by cancer cells at BC Women’s and Children’s Hospital led to an interest in pursuing medicine.  After completing her Medical Degree at UBC in 2005, she pursued her residency training in Family Medicine in Victoria, BC.  Since moving to Nanaimo, she has worked in community family practice and as a hospital-based GP Oncologist providing acute and palliative cancer-care.

Dr. Kenward has been a member of the UBC Continuing Professional Development Program and the UBC/BC Cancer Agency Family Practice Oncology Network as a speaker and in curriculum development.  She has contributed to educational programs in medical oncology for primary care providers, GP Oncologists and family practice residents in BC.  She is a Clinical Instructor for the UBC Medical Program Division of Family Practice.   Within our local community, she also provides care to medically unattached young students and their families as part of the Primary Care Child Youth and Family Clinic.  She joined the Caledonian Clinic in November, 2020.

Dr. Kenward is passionate about providing timely and comprehensive care to her patients and at-risk populations within our community.  She has a keen interest in cancer care including prevention, screening and treatment.  Dr. Kenward believes that continuity of care, patient education/advocacy and positive therapeutic relationships are the fundamental backbone of primary care.  She strives to identify the patient’s goals for their health care.  Once their goals are clarified, she assists patients in achieving them through supportive communication, behaviour/lifestyle modification and medical treatment.

Outside of work, Dr. Kenward has a keen interest in travel and fitness.  She has done medical work in Cuba and has lived in France with her husband and two children.  When not at work, Dr. Kenward can be found on trail runs, mountain-biking, and spending time with her family in her garden.  She loves practicing and living on Vancouver Island.
